I have always been fascinated by the Far East
My name is Kevin, and I was born and raised in Scunthorpe, and I have been involved in the finance industry for most of my working life. Around ten years ago I set off travelling the world. I returned to the UK from my travels in 2010, and have been working on and developing the project since then.
I spent a year on mainland Spain followed by a year in Tenerife. These were both fantastic experiences, during which I supported myself along the way working in sales, and taking various roles in public relations. Whilst the sunshine and beaches were a beautiful contrast to my customary town life, the most amazing experience so far for me, has been my adventure in China.
Having always been fascinated by the Far East , when I learned there was an opportunity to travel there to spend a year experiencing the real China first hand, I felt I just had to take it. I was, like many people, initially quite nervous and apprehensive about what to expect embarking on such a journey. However, being the adventurous soul I am, I overcame my qualms and set off across the globe full of hope. I am delighted to say that my expectations were truly lived up to.
Though at first, the immense cultural differences left me a little ‘shell-shocked’, I soon settled in and was made to feel at home. The warmth of the welcome that I received from the many Chinese people I met during this magical year has left me truly astounded. The children I had the pleasure of spending the year with at Dear Child Kindergarten were particularly welcoming. The respect and love I have had from the children during my stay was truly heart warming and emotionally moving. I didn’t realize they would become such a huge part of my life and I will remain eternally grateful for being blessed with them for that year.
I stayed in the city of Chongqing, an exhilarating place with a mix of cultures – new and old. During my time in China, among many other places, I visited Hong Kong; the fascinating Guizhou Province where I spent the Chinese New Year; and spent a breathtaking fortnight in the Tibet Mountains.
It is as a result of the many friendships I formed over that year and the fantastic experience I had, that I want to maintain my links with China. Thus, I now liaise with some of the most highly reputable schools and kindergartens across China through the ‘Teach In China’ project.
The project is an opportunity for you too, to experience the adventure of a lifetime. It is my aim to help as many people as possible to experience the same wonder I felt. I believe it is only through such experiences that we will truly enlighten our souls and embrace the contrasts of life, hopefully helping to make the world a better place for ourselves and for our children.
